Dive in to the speedy, taboo-breaking world of grindcore
Slave to the Grind is an excellent introduction to the history of grindcore. This mutant offspring of metal and hardcore is known as a genre where speed is highly appreciated, and some chaos is a part of the deal. The fans form a tribe of their own, buried deep in the underground.
The film uses interviews and archive materials to look into the early days of the genre, while also giving room to the newcomers. 1980’s pioneers such as the Repulsion, Napalm Death, Anthrax and Brutal Truth are all heard reminiscing in the interviews.
Analysing the current state of the genre are people such Scott Hull, Fuck the Facts, as well as Discordance Axis. Finland is also represented: legendary Rotten Sound is one of the bands interviewed. Our own little Joensuu makes a brief appearance as well.
Slave to the Grind is an extensive documentary about a genre that was born out of the spirit and fury of young musicians, that had its moments in the spotlight, and finally found its place in the underground scene. This film proves that the spirit of grindcore is still alive, passionate, and unwilling to compromise
