Founded in 1986, Savon Kinot Oy is a family-owned cinema company based in North Karelia. Our history in the film industry dates back to 1945, when founder Aarne Peltonen began his journey as a projectionist. Today, the company continues to be run by the Peltonen family.
While our first cinemas were in Varkaus and Savonlinna —giving the company its name after the Savo region— we have since expanded. Today, in addition to Varkaus and Savonlinna, we operate theaters in Joensuu, Iisalmi, and Kitee, the family's hometown. With six theaters in five towns, Savon Kinot is the third largest cinema chain in Finland and the largest one that is entirely Finnish-owned. We welcome over 300,000 visitors annually and currently employ 10 full-time and approximately 35 part-time professionals across our locations.
